Albert

Bio

  • Age: about 5 years
  • Gender: M

Children

Good with children, but due to his pica Albert will need a home without young children, and cannot have non-food items within reach.

Other Pets

Great with other dogs and cats; has a high prey drive when outside with squirrels and birds so no small animals like guinea pigs, hamsters, lizards, etc.

Crate Training

He is crate trained and loves his crate!  Albert runs to his crate for his breakfast and dinner.  He settles in nicely if he has to be crated when alone if his people have to leave the house for a few hours.

House Training

Good in the house with no accidents or marking when his schedule is maintained.  He goes out for a short walk in the backyard every 6 hours or so (generally out upon waking in the AM, after breakfast, noon to early afternoon, before dinner and then before bed) ; he has not had any accidents in his crate.

Adoption Fee

$900

Other Information

  • Found as a skinny stray – which may have contributed to his pica as it is likely anxiety based (you’d be anxious too if you had to scrounge for food) – he is now a healthy 25 lbs. Vet estimates his age at around 5 years old; he has been neutered and is up to date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention.
  • Currently taking Fluoxetine (generic Prozac 200 mg daily) to manage his pica; also taking a B12 supplement (Nutramax Cobalequin purchased on Amazon) as well as a hip & joint supplement (Luvsome Hip & Joint chew purchased at Kroger grocery store)
  • Walks well on a leash though will pull if he sees a squirrel or bird; if Albert sees another dog, he will cry ( Frenchie yodel) as he wants to go up to meet the dog.
  • Very people oriented and friendly; his tail nub starts wagging as soon as a person comes up to him. He can be a land shark/piranha when offered a treat as he will grab it so foster mom has learned how to hold the treat, so fingers stay attached to hand
  • Loves nylabones; cannot have stuffies due to his pica (and no other dogs or cats in the residence should have stuffies either)
  • Does have allergies which are managed with a monthly Cytopoint shot and a prescription diet (Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein kibble). He takes generic OTC Zyrtec twice a day to help as well. Albert also gets a bath every 2 weeks; and while not a huge fan, he tolerates it. He also gets ear drops weekly and his face nose folds cleaned daily. He does not like having his nails trimmed so suggest going to the vet to have that done.
  • Albert is vocal when waiting for his meals as they are being prepped – as if to say, what’s taking you so long! He also vocalizes (the infamous Frenchie yodel) when out on a walk and he sees another dog (as he wants to go meet it). He is good at the vet and quiet while in the waiting room
  • Loves car rides and prefers to ride shotgun (while buckled in with his safety strap to the seta buckle).
